Vodafone follows Airtel in launching iPhone 3GS in India

Vodafone Essar, the country's second-largest mobile phone operator, said today that it will start selling Apple's iconic iPhone 3GS from today, after rival operator, Bharti Airtel the largest cellular service provider in India, had made a similar announcement last week.

With the Indian government gearing up to auction the high speed 3G spectrum to cellular companies in the coming weeks, cellular operators are vying to bundle the iPhone 3GS as part of a packaged scheme to their customers.

The Cupertino, California -based Apple had unveiled the new high speed Phone 3GS in June 2009 with more hardware and software upgrades compared to the iPhone 3G.

The 3G S is the fastest, most powerful iPhone yet, packed with incredible new features including improved speed and performance, up to twice as fast as iPhone 3G with longer battery life, a high-quality 3 mega pixel auto focus camera, easy to use video recording and hands free voice control.

But since the 3G spectrum auction and announcement of the winners expected to take approximately two months and cellular operators will be able to offer the 3G services approximately by September, it is advisable to hold on buying the iPhone right away.

Also since Apple usually announces new models of its iPhone in June-July period, and it is expected to launch the fourth generation iPhone at that time, so it makes more sense to wait for the newer model as the 3GS will become obsolete by then.
